Dominion 2027

Intro

Dominion is “the original deck-builder”
Players outwit each other to acquire Victory Cards, with values of 1, 3, and 6.
Player with the most points from those cards, is the winner.
Each game, has 10 cards, selected randomly, that are unique to that game. It’s called the Kingdom.
The cards in those Kingdom are acquired by players throughout the game to set up factors that prevent their opponents from getting Victory Cards, but, more important to increase their own chances of acquiring Victory Cards.
A single game of 4 players averages at 30-45 minutes, usually lasting around 16 turns.

Event Format

-There are no byes
-The rules of each individual game will be the same, from the Heats, to the Finals: same expansions allowed, same time limit, equal-turns rule, etc.

    First Day:
Stage 1, Heat 1. Anyone can play, no obligation to play in a previous or future Heat. Show up, play a 4-player match. Tournament Points recorded for each player.
Stage 1, Heat 2. Anyone can play, no obligation to play in a previous or future Heat. Show up, play a 4-player match. Tournament Points recorded for each player.
    Second Day:
Stage 1, Heat 3. Anyone can play, no obligation to play in a previous or future Heat. Show up, play a 4-player match. Tournament Points recorded for each player.
Stage 2. (“Quarterfinals”) Anyone with enough tournament points to potentially be in the Top 8 of standings, plays a 4-player match. Tournament Points recorded for each player. No more Tournament Points recorded after this.
    Third Day:
Stage 3. (“Semifinals”) Top 8 players with the most combined Tournament Points from Stage 1 and 2, play in Stage 3. Four of them (randomly selected) play a 4-player match. The other four, play a 4-player match. The 1st and 2nd place players from both of these matches (so, a total of 4 players) advance to the Stage 4.
    Fourth Day:
Stage 4. Finals. 4 remaining players play each other.  3 matches total.

Tournament Points

-Points for the tournament are handed out to players after each match they play:
1st Place – 1,000 points
2nd Place – 100 points
3rd Place – 10 points
4th Place – 1 points
If, in a single match, 2 or more players have the same number of Victory Points, and they tie, they both get the same number of points. e.g. if the players’ Victory Points are 40, 32, 32, and 6, then they would be 1st, 2nd, 2nd, and 4th place, then receive 1000, 100, 100 and 1 points, respectively.
-8 players with the most Tournament Points play in the Semifinals
-If there is ever a tie in Tournament Points, and the need exists to break the tie to determine standings, these tiebreakers will be used:

  • Most 1st place finishes in their matches
  • Fewest last place finishes
  • Standings from previous round
  • Most recent 1st place finish
  • Most 2nd place finishes
  • Margin of Victory (between self and next standing player) in last match

Own a Copy?

-Players are encouraged to bring their own copy of the game.
-GM will bring copies of the game.
-If, for some reason, there are not enough copies of the game available, or there isn’t enough space, players will be encouraged to play in a future Heat.

Pairings

-Tables will be numbered. When assigned a number, go to that table.
-When you are assigned a table, you will also be assigned turn order.
-It is unlikely we will run out of room for the event, however, players who bring a copy of the game will be given priority for being assigned a table.
-Participants will be assigned to 4-player games whenever possible. You will be informed if a number of players other than 4 (e.g. 2, 3, 5, or 6-player game) will be needed for you match.
-During the Heats, pairings are handed out randomly, whenever possible, within these parameters:

  • Players who are later in turn order (3rd/4th) in previous matches will be given priority for turn order in subsequent rounds.
  • Groups who travel together will be split up, when possible

Event Start Time

-You are responsible for showing up on time. GM will announce when registration is closed. No players who arrive after will be allowed to participate.

Match Operations

-The player who is hosting a game (the player who is providing a copy), will decide what Expansions are used in the game. Host may use any of these Expansions: Base, Intrigue, Prosperity, Seaside. 1st or 2nd Edition of these Expansions are allowed.
-The match begins when all 4 players are assigned to a table. You will be given 45 minutes to complete your match. The GM may use their judgement to intervene in matches that go over 45 minutes.
-A Kingdom must be chosen, at random, among the Expansions available.
•GM will not be policing which method you use for this. There are a few apps available, or you could just use the randomizer cards that come with the game. If there are any disagreements, ask GM for help.
-At the beginning of the match, after the last card for the Kingdom is revealed, the players are guaranteed a minimum of 90 seconds to evaluate the Kingdom before starting their first turn.
-Players must play in the order they are assigned when they are given a table
-Each match will have a match sheet, with fields asking for information about the match, e.g. ID numbers of players, turn order of players, final score… these must be filled out before players leave the venue.
-EQUAL-TURNS RULE: In this event, all players in a match play an equal number of turns. The match is over, after the End Game has been triggered, and all players have played an equal number of turns. e.g. if 1st turn order player triggers game end by gaining the last Province, all other players get to play 1 more turn, then the game is over.

Match Rules

-If a player would like to cut an opponent’s deck after the opponent shuffles, the opponent must allow it. After one cut from an opponent, no more cuts are needed.
-If a game play error occurs that cannot be easily resolved, ask the GM for help.
-Timeliness of play? If a match takes too long to complete, GM has discretion to issue penalties to players who are stalling, or end the match early.

Finals

-The Finals will have 4 players. They will play 3 separate games, 3 separate Kingdoms. Format and rules for the Finals are the same as the previous matches in the event.
-The Finals will be using the GM’s copy and will have all 4 Expansions available (2nd Edition).
-All Finals player’s Tournament Points will reset to 0. The same points format will be used: 1st Place: 1000, 2nd: 100, 3rd: 10, 4th: 1.
-Player with the most Tournament Points at the end of all 3 games of the Finals will be winner of the event.
-In the highly unlikely event of a tie in the Finals, we’ll use the tiebreakers listed in this document for the previous stages of this event.

GM Participation

GM will not be playing in this event.
